Why Tutor with Miss G Tutors?

Miss G Tutors has been Miami's most trusted math tutoring service since 2013. Founded by Yasemin Gurgan — a Certified 6th-12th Grade Math Teacher and former Miami-Dade County Curriculum Support Specialist — we serve students from elementary school through college across Miami-Dade County.

We're growing, and not just in math. Whether you're a current or former teacher looking to earn additional income, a college student at FIU, UM, or MDC with a strong academic background, or an expert in science, English, test prep, or another subject who loves helping students succeed — we'd love to hear from you.

Our tutors work with real families who are invested in their child's success. You'll have the support of an experienced team, a steady stream of students, and the flexibility to set your own schedule.

Thinking About Starting Your Own Tutoring Business?

A lot of great tutors wonder how to become a private tutor or start a tutoring business of their own. The good news: Florida makes it easy — no license required. The honest news: the teaching is the easy part.Independent tutors spend a huge share of their time on everything that isn't tutoring — building a website, ranking on Google, running ads, answering inquiries that go nowhere, handling no-shows, and chasing payments — often for months before a steady student base materializes.

Tutoring with Miss G Tutors as an independent contractor gives you the rewarding part without the overhead. We've spent 13+ years building the reputation, the 5.0-star Google presence, and the pipeline of Miami families — so your hours go into actual teaching, from day one.

Tutoring Jobs in Miami — FAQ

Do I need a degree to become a tutor in Miami?

Florida has no legal degree requirement for private tutors. At Miss G Tutors, a bachelor’s degree or current college enrollment is strongly preferred — especially for upper-level subjects like Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and SAT prep — but what matters most is that you truly know your subject and can explain it patiently. Strong subject knowledge plus real experience can stand in for a degree.

Do tutors need a certification or license in Florida?

No. Florida does not license private tutors — teacher certification is only required for classroom teachers in schools. A Florida teaching certificate is a big plus on your application (our founder is a certified 6th–12th grade math teacher), but most great tutors don’t have one and don’t need one.

How much do tutors make in Miami?

Market data puts Miami tutors at roughly $19–$33 per hour on average: Indeed reports tutors in Miami average about $27.66/hour, ZipRecruiter puts private tutors at $32.78/hour on average, and math tutor listings in Miami typically post $14–$38/hour. Miss G Tutors pays competitive rates based on your experience and qualifications — and unlike the big tutoring platforms, which take up to a 25% cut of everything you earn, we pay our tutors directly.

Do I need a background check to tutor?

Yes — every Miss G tutor completes a background check before working with students, and we handle the process and the cost. It’s part of why Miami families trust us with their kids.

Can college students get tutoring jobs? What if I have no formal experience?

Absolutely. Some of our best tutors are math and STEM students at FIU, UM, and MDC. If you haven’t tutored formally before but you know your subject cold and you’re patient and reliable, apply — the application asks how you’d help a struggling student, and a thoughtful answer counts for a lot.

Are the tutoring jobs in person or online?

Both. You choose: in-person sessions with families across Miami-Dade (reliable transportation required), online sessions over Zoom, or a mix of the two.

How many hours a week do tutors work?

It’s flexible, part-time work built around your schedule. Most sessions happen on weekday afternoons, weekday evenings, and weekends — you tell us your availability and how many hours you want, and we match students to it.

Should I just start my own private tutoring business instead?

You can — Florida makes it easy to tutor independently. The honest catch: the teaching is the easy part. Finding clients is the hard part — independent tutors spend a huge share of their time on marketing, websites, ads, no-shows, and chasing payments before they teach a single hour. Tutoring with Miss G Tutors as an independent contractor gives you the teaching without the overhead: we’ve spent 13+ years building the reputation, the Google reviews, and the pipeline of Miami families, so you can spend your hours actually tutoring.

Miss G Tutors has maintained a 5.0 Google rating and 100% EOC pass rate for over 13 years. We serve students from schools across Miami-Dade County including Gulliver Preparatory, Ransom Everglades, Palmer Trinity, Coral Gables Senior High, and many more. Learn more about us →
